Seven Things Students Want to Know
ONE: Am I in the right room?
I will be standing at the door, helping anyone who needs help. A sign will be on the door as well as the chalkboard of the classroom with my name and welcoming information.
TWO: Where am I supposed to sit?
When I greet my students at the door on the first day of school, they will have assigned seating with their names displayed on their desks.
THREE: What are the rules in this classroom?
Every student will get a copy of the classroom rules and consequences, a copy will be sent home, a large copy will to be posted on the classroom wall.
FOUR: What will I be doing this year?
I will give students the big picture of the class covering the overall content and classroom procedures. In addition, during the first three weeks of school I will be working with students on how to be responsible for their behavior and their learning.
FIVE: How will I be graded?
Students earn their grade based on their mastery of the learning criteria. Everyone has the opportunity to succeed...I will be fair and consistent.
SIX: Who is the teacher as a person?
I will provide information about me as a teacher, information that gives them a glimpse into who I am without divulging information that is too personal or not necessary for them to know.
SEVEN: Will the teacher treat me as a human being?
From day one I will send a positive message of care and organization. I will treat every student with respect, dignity and fairness.
